1988 200 changed to 1998 175 wiring

I just changed my 1988 200 to a 1998 175. Put on a new multi gauge so no problems there. My problem is that the plug on the remote oil unit does not match the plug on the engine. Each plug has a black with red strip,blue,and black wire. The oil unit has a brown wire and the motor has a yellow wire. Should I just connect the common colors and put the brown and yellow together.

The remote oil tank on a 1988 engine has a round plug on wire harness and the 1998 has a square plug on the harness at the engine and it is normally in the pan by the control cables and the wire colors should match the harness you. If you are using the 1998 oil tank it will have the square plug that will match the eng. plug. You can get an adapter (6R3-82541-00-00) to make the 1988 oil tank connect to the 1998 engine.
