  • L200 problems

My 1989 L200, runs and starts, but needs to have the idle stop screwed all the way in, at idle it's only got one cyl. to a side that "hit" real well, pull those coil wires off and it quits. Will not develope full RPM, it goes there but will cut right down to 1800-2000. It will run fairly well at 3400 but a little rough and will pick up 300 to 400 RPM and smooth out for a min or two then drop back and run rough. Compression 105 and above, coils good, and have been swapped w/no difference, plugs new, pulse coils and charge coil check to manual specs w/multi-tester, control unit and CDI unit both have multi-tester readings outside of manual ranges. What I need to know is, are the repair manual range limits absolute and if the units show outside these limits, they need to be replaced. Help, a 1000 bucks is a lot to shell uot for a 21yr old engine w/about 2000hrs. Engine is on a 20' Grady, alum tank, filter cut open, nothing, ethanol fuel has been in our area for at least 6yrs, fuel lines appear solid. This problem has been comming on slowly for the past 2 seasons, when first occured thought it was fouled plugs.
