how to remove lower unit on a 90 hp

I removed the prop & bolts. The lower unit dropped about 2" & stopped like either the motor shaft or shift shaft are fastened somewhere above. Can you help me?

If it dropped 2 inches it should come off, make sure speedo hose is disconnected.

Thanks for getting back to me. The lower unit only dropped 1/2 inch not 2" as I previously said. Now if I lift it and let it down to that 1/2 inch I hear solid metal clank and can get no more downward movement.It wiggles around and I can see a spline on the shift rod going up inside the upper rod. I have disconnected the speedometer tube. I have removed 6 bolts. This is a 2003 90 hp 4stroke. thanks Joe

The shift and drive shaft are splined and one of is probably stuck.
