Yamaha 2002 40HP C40TLRA Water Pump

Good morning all, A buddy asked me for my help to change out his water pump on his Yamaha outboard. I have changed mine on my 140hp OMC and I know there always a couple of "heads up" things. I told him to buy a service manual first and we will go from there. Any tips? should the motor be in forward or reverse before I begin? I have one screw on the shift rod on my motor and the lower end drops, is there something special on the Yamaha? Any thing I need to pay special attention too?

Welcome to the forum

It is a simple job

Neutral and nothing to disconnect on the linkage, just slips off. Make sure both are in neutral when going back

Only thing I can think of is finding all the bolts to remove, need to remove the zink tab to get to the bolt underneath for dropping lower unit.
