  • 97 25hp starter issue

    Greetings all,
I have a C25 MLHV and recently changed the starter rope after winding and replacing the starter mechanism, the little pawl and spring does not catch and start the engine after pulling the starter rope. It should go by centrifical (sp) force. I greased the little mechanism with minimal help. I wonder if I should stretch the hardened steel spring until it is loose enough to catch and return once engine is running. Or should I do something else?
    Any ideas?

May need to replace pawl spring, may not be appling enough friction to kick pawls out.

      Pawl spring replacement

I replaced the parts (spring and pawl) and the spring feels tight and will not kick back once pulling starter cord. The spring appears to have little finger holes to pull it looser, but if it is too loose the spring could fall off. Any other ideas, thanks for the response. Rhody187
